Fans get shirty in shares row

Supporters are invited to wear the shirts for Saturday’s televised game against Brentford in a high profile campaign over delays in getting the shares restored to the football club.

The protest is being organised by the Huddersfield Town Supporters Association which will hand out seven and a half thousand shirts urging Huddersfield Giants owner, and former Town chairman Ken Davy to return the shares to the club.

Mr Davy transferred Town’s shares into his company, Huddersfield Sporting Pride, when he saved the club from administration.

He agreed to transfer them back to the new Town chairman Dean Hoyle, but the talks between them are now deadlocked.

HTSA says the protest will be peaceful, and will be a message of support to Heckmondwike-born Mr Hoyle, and his board of directors.

Businessman Andy Shuter, who donated the shirts said: “I, like most Huddersfield Town fans, am deeply saddened and concerned at the current plight of HTFC and the unresolved stadium share issue. The message is simple, wear the shirt and show your support. We won’t rest until the shares are returned.”

HTSA chairman, Stephen King said: “The nation will be watching as the game is live on Sky TV. HTSA see this as an ideal opportunity to harness support and show watching officials, elected members of Kirklees Council, national and local press, the wider Kirklees public and the nation that the fans of Huddersfield Town will not rest until its rightful 40 per cent share in the Galpharm Stadium is returned for the £2 paid for them.“

The remaining 40 per cent of the shares belong to Kirklees Council and a deputation of fans attended Wednesday’s full council meeting at Huddersfield Town Hall. The shirts will be given out at the Gas Club in Gasworks Street, Huddersfield, from 2pm. The game kicks off at 5,20pm.
