Spen Valley MP Kim Leadbeater joins Royal British Legion to help launch Poppy Appeal in Mirfield

The Royal British Legion has launched its 2026 Poppy Appeal in Mirfield.

Volunteers across the country are giving their time to raise funds and encourage the public to wear a poppy in remembrance of all those who have served and sacrificed in the service of their country.

The stall at Mirfield Co-op offered people an opportunity to show their support, make a donation and learn more about the Royal British Legion’s ongoing work within the Armed Forces community.

Spen Valley MP Kim Leadbeater met Poppy Appeal organiser David Horrobin and long-serving volunteers Barbara Clough and Frank Wright BEM to hear about their experience and the important role played by volunteers in supporting the annual appeal. They were also joined by Coun Stuart Naisbett from Mirfield Town Council.

Ms Leadbeater said: “Remembrance Sunday is an important time for our community to come together to honour those who have served and sacrificed.

“The Poppy Appeal helps ensure that the Royal British Legion can continue to provide vital support to serving personnel, veterans and their families.

“I am extremely grateful to David, Barbara, Frank and all the RBL volunteers for the time and commitment they give to the appeal, as well as to everyone who makes a donation or wears a poppy in support.”

The Royal British Legion encourages everyone to support the 2026 Poppy Appeal and take time during the Remembrance period to reflect on the service and sacrifice of the Armed Forces community.
