Dewsbury Arts Group set to open new season by staging comedy play by 'Rising Damp' writer Eric Chappell

The play, written by Eric Chappell, who is known for creating many popular TV sitcoms including “Rising Damp”, is described by director Sue Saville as “very funny and witty”.

It features a cast of six including many familiar faces from the group: Maria Bailey, Mark Bailey, Rachel Wood, Iain Winstanley, Lindsey Clough and Gloria Appleton.

Comedian and national treasure Dave Thursby has died and his friends gather to pay their respects.

Dave’s glamorous young widow Laura has arranged a funeral to remember, when an unfamiliar woman arrives with a few home truths. Could it be that Dave is having the last laugh?

Performances take place at the David and Judith Wood Theatre, Lower Peel Street, Dewsbury, from Saturday, September 28 until Saturday, October 5. There is a matinee on Sunday, September 29 at 2.30pm and no performance on Monday, September 30.
