It’s a bit fishy!

THE PLAICE TO BE: Sarruga will create an underwater spectacle with Peixos for the Spirit 2012 show.

SHIMMERING shoals of fish will swim through the streets of Dewsbury when the outdoor show Spirit returns to town.

This year’s spectacular will feature a procession of fantastic mechanical fish, jellyfish and whales.

The free performance of Peixos on Friday February 24 will come to a thrilling climax with the appearance of a menacing shark.

It is the fifth time Dewsbury has hosted Spirit, a council-funded event featuring international performers. Previous shows have attracted thousands of people and included aerial acrobatics, eerie inflatable figures and a giant fountain.

Sarruga, the Spanish theatre company behind Peixos, last performed in 2010 when they thrilled crowds with their giant fire-breathing mechanical dragons.

Coun Jean Calvert, Cabinet member for communities, said: “Since it began in 2008, Spirit has grown into a wonderful family event, featuring internationally-renowned theatre companies.

“Sarruga’s dragons were extremely popular when they visited Dewsbury a few years ago and I’m told that this show is another crowd-pleaser.

“It’s a great free event and one I’d urge everyone to come and enjoy.”

The 45-minute show starts at 7.30pm with a procession around the town before a final showdown outside the town hall. Click on the link to the right of the story to watch a video of Peixos in action.
