Young Star set for Scout Hill cup final

Dewsbury Young Star will take on Scout Hill in the Dewsbury District League’s showpiece Section A Cup final on Sunday August 2.

Young Star overcame Friends Eleven by 28 runs in a cracking semi-final last Sunday, while Scout Hill edged past New Sanam.

Ismail Patel struck a marvellous 104, including 13 fours and two sixes, to set the platform for Young Star’s impressive total of 267-7.

Ayaz Sidat (51) and Nazir Patel (43) supported Ismail’s efforts to bolster the Young Star total.

Friends Eleven gave the run chase an excellent effort as Salamat led the way with 60 and Nasar hit 56 not out but they ended on 239-9.

Ismail Mayat claimed 3-52 from eight overs, while there were economical spells by Zuber Patel (2-37) and Hassan Patel(1-33) as Young Star booked their final place.

Amir Malik claimed 3-23 as Scout Hill dismissed New Sanam for 148 in the other semi-final.

Asif Qayyum (40) and Mohammed Adnan (29) were the leading Sanam scorers.

There were a few anxious moments for Scout Hill as Sanam claimed seven wickets in reply, with Quazafi Amnir claiming 3-18, before they edged to victory.

Riffat Mehmood and Kurram Shezad hit 28 apiece as Scout Hill edged home at 148-7.

Kashmir and Dewsbury Elite will meet in the Section B Cup final, which also takes place on August 2.

Kashmir dismissed Savile Stars Shaheen for just 99 in last Sunday’s semi-final as Nazabed Hussain (3-14) and Arshad Jan (3-27) did the damage.

Atif Munir (29) was the leading Shaheen batsman, before Sohail Butt hit 34 in reply as Kashmir eased to a six-wicket win despite Adil claiming 2-18.

Dewsbury Elite (113) earned a 43-run victory over Al Murad (70) in the other semi.

Heckmondwike and Carlinghow kept up the pressure on Huddersfield Central League Premier Section leaders Edgerton and Dalton with a convincing 81-run victory over Nortonthorpe last Saturday.

Matthew Crowther top scored with 56, while Adam Holt (39), Chris Allen (32), Usman Qureshi (31) and Paul Cooper (27) supported as Heckmondwike and Carlinghow posted 217-9.

Javed Iqbal then returned excellent figures of 7-40 as Nortonthorpe were dismissed for 136, with D McDermott (72) top scoring.

Mount are third, six points behind Heckmondwike and Carlinghow, following a 98-run victory over Green Moor.

J Delair top scored with 51 not out, while I Rawat (32), M Makda (38) and R Motala (37) also contributed as Mount posted 218-8, with B Askey claiming 4-46.

Green Moor were dismissed for 120 in reply with Motala claiming 3-24 and Delair backing up his efforts with the bat by taking 4-38.
