Woodlands take derby honours to stay second

Victory will be enough to se cure Woodlands at least a second place finish after Hanging Heaton suffered defeat to Bradford & Bingley.

Pieter Swanepoel led the Woodlands innings with 31 as they were bowled out for 147, with Richard Atkins claiming 4-29.

Former Woodlands batsman Dan Shuffe made 42 in reply but Bierley were bowled out for 92 as Scott Richardson (5-13) and spinner Chris Brice (5-15) combined to steer Woodlands to victory.

Defeat leaves Bierley 33 points above second-bottom Morley and requiring eight points from their final two matches to secure survival.

Cleckheaton need 16 points from their remaining two games to retain the league championship after a 58-run win over Lightcliffe.

Cleckheaton made 210-7 thanks, largely, once again to the efforts of overseas player Tanzeel Altaf, who smashed six sixes and two fours in an unbeaten 55 from 26 balls.

Mally Nicholson chipped in with 37 to boost the Cleckheaton total further while off-spinner Josh Wheatley claimed 6-88, his second-successive six-wicket haul, for Lightcliffe.

Spin proved order of the day as Andrew Deegan produced a terrific spell of 7-22 as Lightcliffe were bowled out for 152.

Overseas player Suleman Khan made 61 for Lightcliffe but it wasn’t enough to spare them from defeat.

Cleckheaton know victory away to Farsley on Saturday or at home against Bradford & Bingley on the final day of the season will be enough to secure a second successive Division One title for John Wood’s men.

Hanging Heaton remain third idespite suffering a five-wicket defeat to Bradford & Bingley.

Jack Hartley (5-37) and Noman Ali (4-2) led Heaton’s downfall as they slipped from 61-1 to 81 all out.

Bingley openers Scott Etherington (28) and Charlie Best (24) shared a 51-run an opening stand and although the visitors lost five quick wickets, they eased to victory.
