Woodlands take charge

WOODLANDS secured a third straight win in Bradford League Division One with victory over Pudsey St Lawrence last Saturday.

Woodlands earned a maximum 20 points after Scott Richardson (95) and Simon Mason (84) shared a superb 164 partnership for the second wicket as Woodlands posted an impressive 269-7.

Chris Marsden claimed 4-59 and followed that up by top scoring with 47 but St Lawrence were dismissed for 120 in reply as Chris Brice claimed 5-31 as Woodlands completed a 149 run win.

East Bierley’s second league win came against promoted Lightcliffe.

Lee Goddard led the way with a top score of 70, while Gavin Hamilton chipped in with 56 in Bierley’s 202-8 from 50 overs.

Lightcliffe were dismissed for 108 in reply as Kez Ahmed returned excellent figures of 6-31 and was supported by Luke Jarvis (3-20).

Cleckheaton slipped to a third straight defeat as they were edged out by one-wicket in another thriller.

The Moorenders were edged out by four runs to Woodlands the previous week and last Saturday it was another tense affair, with Cleckheaton, unfortunately, again on the losing end.

Tim Jackson made 51 and with support from Ian Nicholson (38) and Joseph Robinson (30), Cleckheaton posted a very useful 212-8.

Although Shaaq Choudrey made 54 near the top of the Undercliffe reply, James Lee (4-69) and Ian Wood (3-31) helped reduce the visitors to 139-7.

Yasir Abbas helped get Undercliffe back in the game but when their ninth wicket fell, they were still 19 runs short of their target. Number 11 batsman Tom Hudson held onto his wicket, while Abbas ended 58 not out to guide Undercliffe to victory with two balls to spare.

Gomersals latest success in Division Two came against previously unbeaten Morley.

Matthew Baxter (46) and David Nebard (30no) helped Morley reach 181-8, with Chris Rhodes returning excellent figures of 6-43.

Gomersal won with more than 16 overs to spare as Greg Pickles hit 71 and Adam Greenwood 64 to steer the second division leaders to 183-4.

Hartshead Moor picked up their first win thanks to a six-run success over Windhill.

Graham Hilton top scored with 84 and with Stephen Blackburn (58) supporting, Moor reached 201-6.

Umar Abbas (68) and Hassan Mehmood (61) ensured there were a few anxious moments for Hartshead but Martin Riley’s 5-44 helped dismiss Windhill for 195.

Spen Victoria overcame Keighley by 88 runs.

Tosh Baker cracked 82 not out to help boost Spen’s total to 163 all out and it proved a match winning innings as Keighley were dismissed for 75 in reply with Rob Burton (3-12) and Ben Platt (3-15) the main instigators.
