Woodlands secure HW Cup progress

Woodlands marched into the Solly Sports Heavy Woollen Cup quarter-finals with a 28-run victory over Huddersfield League side Barkisland last Sunday.

The match was reduced to 30 overs per side and played in bitterly cold conditions but Woodlands ground out victory to reach the last eight.

Sam Frankland top scored with 73, while 36 not out late on by Jordan Laban boosted the Woodlands total 236-6, with Ben Westbrook (3-30) pick of the Barkisland bowling.

Luke Bridges (62) and Seth Oddy (34) threatened to win the game for Barkisland but they were bowled out for 208, with Sarfraz Ahmed claiming 3-30.

Woodlands entertain CYL side Wakefield Thornes in the last eight in a tie which must be played before the scheduled semi-final date of July 6.

Townville are through following a six-wicket victory over Shelley as Chris Holliday (65no), Jason Booth (56) and Nick Bresnan (39) helped them successfully chase down the home side’s total of 226 all out.

Townville meet the winners of New Farnley and Skelmanthorpe in the last eight.

Huddersfield League champions Hoylandswaine face Methley or Kirkburton in the quarter-finals after they overcame Shepley by six wickets in a match reduced to 20 overs per side.

Former Hanging Heaton man Alex Morris top scored with 61 as Hoylandswaine chased down Shepley’s 128-9.

Gomersal entertain Lancashire outfit Delph & Dobcross in the second round on Sunday with the winners facing either Hanging Heaton or cup holders Pudsey Congs in the other quarter-final tie.

Kirkburton (178-4) defeated Barkisland (177-9) by six wickets in their delayed Crowther Cup second round tie to complete the quarter-final line-up, with matches scheduled for this Sunday.
