Whitehead stars in final success

BATLEY Boys ended their season on a high note when they beat York Acorn A 28-6 in the Yorkshire League Division Two play-off final at Normanton.

It was a great effort by the Batley side, led by centre Josh Whitehead, who scored one of their five tries and was man-of-the- match.

Whitehead is a member of the Boys’ Under-18 team and is still young enough to be eligible for the youth side next season.

Other tries came from Aiden Lister (two), Johnny Mack and Adam Bingham while Gareth Wilson and Bingham each added two goals.

The Boys were under a good deal of pressure during the second half but tackled particularly well and at one strage defended three successive sets of six on their line.

The win meant Batley Boys achieved the double as they finished top of the league when Acorn had points deducted for playing too many first team players in recent league games, including the one at Halifax Road when they beat the Boys.
