White Rose defence key to success

Northallerton 14

White Rose 18

A FINE second half defensive effort repelled a home fightback as White Rose earned victory in this Yorkshire League Division Three contest last Saturday.

Rose scored all their points in the first half as a good break from Glen Towey ended with Danny Taylor scoring the opening try and Ash Holderness then started a move which ended with Chris Towell adding the visitors’ second.

The hard working Holderness burst onto a pass and raced over for a try, which he also converted, before some fine Rose drives ended with Towey adding his name to the scorers to put White Rose in control.

Good runs came from Towey, Sier, Holderness and Kent, along with substitutes Fennell, Taylor and Brewer.

The backs also impressed, led by Taylor, Towell, Fallas, Aked and Lumb but credit also goes to Northallerton, who scored the only points of the second half which left Rose hanging on for victory.

However, the Rose defence stood firm late on to thwart the home side’s fightback and ensure they climbed up to fourth in the third division, two points behind Stanley Rangers A and four adrift of local rivals Shaw Cross A with three games in hand.

White Rose face a huge game on Saturday when unbeaten leaders Castleford Panthers A visit Bywell Fields.
