Warrington aims to bring title to Central

Warrington faces the toughest fight of his career on Saturday night when he takes on fellow unbeaten prospect Samir Mouneimne at the Hull Arena.

It is just five weeks since Warrington defended his English featherweight but the 22 year-old will aim to join the likes of Henry Wharton and Crawford Ashley in Leeds boxers who have won Commonwealth titles.

Warrington has been based at Batley’s Central Club for around 13 months, during which time he has won and twice successfully defended the English title.

Central Boxing Club’s Julian McGowan has offered a supporting role to Warrington and his trainer father Sean O’Hagen and he is backing the Leeds man to bring success to the area.

McGowan said: “It is great for the kid to be boxing for the Commonwealth title.

“He is such a nice lad and I can’s say enough good things about Josh and what he has brough to the gym.

“I believe this is a genuine 50-50 fight but I think Josh’s natural strength and fitness will see him through over the 12 rounds.”

Warrington was in superb condition when he beat Ian Bailey at Elland Road in September and Central’s Mark Hurley and John Tallant are sure to have whipped him into great shape for the clash against Mouneimne, which is live on Sky Sports.
