Wardlaw faces Gale in battle of the Yorkshires

CLECKHEATON’S Iain Wardlaw is likely to be bowling against Yorkshire captain Andrew Gale during the county’s inter-squad opening pre-season game in Barbados.

The Yorkshire squad arrived on the Caribbean island on Monday and will spend the next two weeks in Barbados on their pre-season tour.

Wardlaw has been picked in a Joe Sayers XI, which also includes Joe Root, Gary Ballance, Jonny Bairstow, Adil Rashid, Ryan Sidebottom, Steve Patterson, plus three local players.

Gale’s team includes Adam Lyth, Alex Lees, former East Bierley batsman Anthony McGrath, Gerard Brophy, Ajmal Shahzad, Azeem Rafiq, Gurman Randhawa, Moin Ashraf, Oliver Hannon-Dalby, plus one local player.

The game takes place over Thursday and Friday, when 96 overs will be bowled on each day

Runs will be deducted from the total when wickets are lost and all seamers - including Wardlaw - will have to bowl a minimum of 12 overs each day.
