The original game the previous week was abandoned after 34 minutes due to a serious injury to Wibsey’s Luke Helliwell.

It is a credit to both sets of players that there was no malice hanging over from the previous week’s game.

Instead spectators were treated to a first class game of competitive rugby league.

Wibsey drew first blood when stand-off Ryan Smith broke clear and side-stepped the Thornhill full back to score. Simon Sewell converted.

Wibsey continued to attack Thornhill in the game’s opening phase and at one point made a dangerous long range break which exposed Thornhill’s defence but Joss Ratcliffe pulled off a fantastic tackle to avert the danger.

Ratcliffe was penalised for holding down and referee Neil Pascall sent him to the sin bin.

Thornhill MoM Joel Gibson produced a perfectly weighted kick for Adam Bird to score in the corner.

Thornhill’s kicks continued to cause problems and it was straight after the interval that the pressure paid off.

Gibson broke and found Danny Ratcliffe who put Luke Haigh away and he sent Gibson racing over for a try which he converted.

Another good attacking move saw Joss Ratcliffe break clear and cover nearly half the length of the field.

The ball was worked out to Bird and then worked to the other side and a great pass from Danny Ratcliffe put Chris Walker charging over for an unconverted try.

Wibsey clearly weren’t going to give in easily and began to regain a hold on the game.

After having a try disallowed Nick Walker powered over for a try from close range. Simon Sewell converted to narrow Thornhill’s lead to two points.

Thornhill scored two quick tries as Richard Bostock burst out of a tackle and proved unstoppable from 10 metres out.
