Update: Sykes English title fight confirmed

DEWSBURY’S Gary Sykes will box unbeaten prospect Kevin Hooper for the vacant English super featherweight title in Cleethorpes on March 15.

Grimsby fighter Hooper has won all 13 of his professional bouts and overcame Amir Unsworth to win the British Boxing Board of Control’s Midlands Area lightweight title in October but he will drop down to the super featherweight division to face Sykes.

The BBBofC have now authorised the fight to take place for the English title and have confirmed the Beachcomber Club in Cleethorpes as the venue.

The Dewsbury star, who boxes out of the Central Club in Batley, has promised a big year ahead and if he wins the English title it could put him in line for a shot at regaining the British crown later in the year.

Ticket details for the fight will be announced in due course, but it is likely a coach will be running from the Dewsbury area to transport Sykes fans.
