Trophy triumphs for Thornhill bowlers

THORNHILL A proved too strong for Stanley as they won the Ossett, Horbury and District Bowls Association’s John Salmon Trophy.

After four jacks of last Saturday’s final Thornhill (+12) had reduced the deficit with Stanley (+48) to just two points.

Stanley had a 21-18 winner in the second four but Thornhill were always in control and won the match by 36 points.

League secretary John Micklethwaite presented the trophy to Thornhill A captain Lilian Gray, the first of four the team has collected this season.

Thornhill A have also won the Ossett, Horbury and District Division One title, the Heavy Woollen Cup and the Heavy Woollen League.

A thrilling Beverley Cup final, saw Sandal A eventually snatch victory 145-144 against Alverthorpe.
