Trojans’ title showdown – Moor face cup semi

THORNHILL Trojans can cap a fine season by clinching the Pennine League Division Three title tomorrow (Saturday).

The Trojans lead by two points from Selby Warriors and the sides meet in their final game at Overthorpe Park (2.30pm).

Selby have a superior points difference after thumping bottom club Victoria Rangers twice in four days – 94-4 at home and 46-4 away – before last Saturday’s 38-6 home win over Sharlston A.

The Trojans, who have a near full-strength squad to pick from, know they just need to avoid defeat to be crowned champions and they will be keen to avoid an unwelcome treble.

Selby are the only team to beat Thornhill in the league this season, 20-18 last October, while Selby won 30-28 at Thornhill last month in the Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy quarter-finals.

Dewsbury Moor are also on the trail of silverware as they visit Halifax Road tomorrow to tackle Batley Boys in the delayed Jim Brown Heavy Woollen Cup semi-final (2.30pm).

RL Conference National leaders Dewsbury Celtic bid to maintain their 100 per cent start to the campaign as they visit Valley Cougars tomorrow, while in the Yorkshire Premier East Division Shaw Cross Sharks host Prospect Pirates.
