Trojans A kick off with impressive cup victory

Thornhill Trojans A team kicked off the new season in style with a 48-22 victory over Wibsey in the Yorkshire Men's League Forty 20 Cup group game.

The bitterly cold conditioned failed to suppress the enthusiasm of the Trojans second string which contained a mixture of youth and experience as well as some new faces.

Man-of-the-match Sam Ratcliffe and Jordan Truelove scored a hat-trick of tries each in what proved a tough run out for the Trojans and the game was far more of a tussle than the final score line suggests.

Jordon Truelove opened the scoring with a try after only two minutes following a good run from Sam Ratcliffe. George Woodcock converted.

wibsey hit back with a Chris Vogel try which Brad Wright converted but Joe Waters then set up a fantastic try for Thornhill as he held off a defender and managed to slip out a pass which put Sam Ratcliffe over.

Captain Shane Davies scored a brilliant solo try as he showed superb upper bodystrength to hold off three defenders to surge over for an unconverted try.

Vogel made a direct run inat the Thornhill defence, swatted off a would-be tackler and scored at the side of the posts. Wright converted.

George Scott then scored a try on his Thornhill debut following his recent transfer from Ossett before Scott Dyson chipped over, regathered and sent youngster George Woodcock sprinting over. Sam Ratcliffe converted.

Sam Ratcliffe burrowed over for a converted try to put the trojans 30-12 ahead.

Michael Derrick replied with Wibsey’s third try which wright improvesd but good Thornhill handling ended with Jordan Truelove scoring an unconverted try.

Luke Palmer then sent out a wonderful pass to the wing for Truelove to complete his hat-trick.

Mark Hodgson added an unconverted try in the corner but battling Wibsey replied with a Joe Radcliffe try in his first game of rugby league.

Sam Ratcliffe shimmied his way over to complete his hat-trick as Thornhill A made a great start to the new season and they now face a tricky trip to Keighley Albion in the next Forty 20 Cup group fixture.
