Town see of Westgate challenge to book HW Cup quarter-final date

Mirfield Town secured their place in the Heavy Woollen Sunday Cup quarter-final with victory over Wellington Westgate.

Mirfield Town proved too strong for Championship side Wellington Westgate as they booked a place in the Heavy Woollen Challenge Cup quarter-finals with a 4-0 win last Sunday.

Chris Meeson fired a brace, while further goals from Oliver Rounding and Elliot Smith saw Mirfield into the last eight, where they will meet Woodman Batley Carr on November 27.

Woodman overcame fellow Premier Division side Navigation 5-2 after Andy Bates, Andrew Pickles, Jonathan Walton, Neil Pickles and Lee Brooke all found the net.

Navigation replied through Lee Bennett and Craig Batty but it wasn’t enough to prevent them bowing out.

There will be an all Premier Division quarter-final between St John Fisher and Mount Pleasant, who had little trouble in seeing off Championship opposition last Sunday.

Premier leaders St John Fisher took on their own Reserve side and emerged comfortable 12-2 winners.

Dominic Simpson, Matthew Bugg and Stephen Wales all netted hat-tricks, there was a double from Irfane Khan plus a Noel Whittaker strike.

Fisher Reserves replied through Jack Murphy and Ryan Higgins.

Mount Pleasant saw off the challenge of lowly Championship side Town Rangers 4-0 to set up next month’s clash with Fisher.

Adam Ali Ravat. Faisal Adam, Yusuf Akudi and Ismail Loonat all found the net.

Christy Woods hit a hat-trick in Woodkirk Valley’s comfortable 7-0 success over Championship outfit Overthorpe Sports Club.

Woodkirk’s tally was completed by Gavin Huxall, David Murphy, Danny Barton and an own goal.

Woodkirk now meet unbeaten Huddersfield side Linthwaite in what should be a tasty quarter-final after the Championship leaders were awarded their tie against Battyeford.

AFC Chickenley may lie at the foot of the Premier Division, without a win from their opening four league games, but they sprang a surprise, defeating high flying Birstall Cricket Club 6-4.

Tim Clarke, Sean Housecroft and Shaun McDaid all bagged doubles as Chickenley edged through.

Birstall replied through Troy Bagshaw, Ryan Kerregher, Gaz Richardson and Dominic Carr but it wasn’t enough to prevent them bowing out.

Premier Division side Heckmondwike Sports Club suffered a shock defeat to Championship side Clifton Rangers,

Heckmondwike had James Haigh on target but they were humbled 3-1 at a Clifton side who are third in the Championship.
