Town Hall to stage boxing

BOXING returns to Dewsbury this weekend when the Town Hall stages a bill of quality amateur fights on Saturday evening, writes Andrew Hunt.

The KBW gym, based in Savile Town, have put together the impressive bill, in which fighters from Batley, Dewsbury, Heckmondwike and Leeds will be making appearances.

Hot prospect Qais Ashfaq is one of those set to fight on the bill.

Ashfaq is part of the Great Britain set up and is one of the prospects being tipped for glory at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Although hailing from Leeds, Ashfaq is based at the KBW gym and Saturday’s show will give local boxing fans a rare chance to see him in action in the town.

Ashfaq’s commitments with Great Britain means he usually competes in national or international competitions and he is one of several decent attractions on the bill.

Several national amateur title holders are also set to box at the event, with the Town Hall doors opening at 7pm and boxing set to start at 8pm.

KBW sold 465 tickets for the show in just 10 days but a limited number of standing tickets (priced £10) are expected to be on sale on Saturday evening.

KBW have also invited British light-middleweight challenger Adil Anwar, from Leeds, to the show.

Anwar recently defeated Dale Miles in a gruelling British light-welterweight title eliminator.
