Top Spen Valley Premier trio slip up

IT WAS a bizarre afternoon in the Spen Valley League Premier Division last Saturday with the top three sides all losing.

Jardy Boys failed to capitalise on leaders Bradford slipping up when they lost 4-1 at TVR United. Ashiq Iqbal, Junaid Taj, Moh Usmaeel and Adis Iqbal struck for TVR, with Jamie Shaw hitting Jardy’s consolation.

They remain second, three points behind Bradford with a game in hand.

Bradford suffered a 3-1 defeat to mid-table West Bradford Spartans. Bobby Canning and Sam Prest (two) struck with John Singh replying.

BD3 United’s title hopes are very much alive despite losing 2-0 at Girlington, who have won all their home games this season. BD3 are two points behind Jardy with two games in hand.

Two goals in the opening five minutes secured Girlington victory as they moved level on 28 points with BD3 having played two games more.

Mount climbed out of the bottom two thanks to a 3-1 win over Ravensthorpe Rangers with Moh Mayatt (two) and Moh Adam the scorers. Adel replied for Ravensthorpe, who stay eighth.

Bradford All Stars defeated Savile United 4-1 in the only Division One game.

Local sides had mixed fortunes in the Wilf Ward Memorial Trophy.

Howden Clough bowed out in the first round, losing 2-1 to ALC as Ashley Dutton struck from the penalty spot, while Karl Hall also scored.

BD3 United Reserves edged out Thornhill United Reserves by the odd goal in five.Sharaz Mamous (two) and Steed Hussain saw BD3 to a narrow win, despite Thornhill replying through Jake Garvey and Ryan Bolton.

Marsh and Ravenswharfe played out a goalless 90 minutes as their first round tie went to extra-time. Marsh progressed, scoring three without reply, with Loz Balmforth, Mark Wrigley and Chris Blackburn on target.

Vision marched into the third round after edging out Inter Batley (Amar Ahmed) 2-1 thanks to Chris Lever and Michael Roebuck.
