English super featherweight champion Sykes has fought all 27 bouts away from his home town but is set to realise his dream by topping the bill as professional boxing returns to Dewsbury for the first time in over a decade.

An opponent for Sykes is yet to be confirmed but he will step up to lightweight and the bout is likely to be for an international title.

A homecoming was muted when Sykes held the British title but it never materialised as he won and twice defended his Lonsdale belt in Huddersfield but the 29-year-old from Dewsbury Moor now gets the chance to box at home.

Sykes successfully defended his English super featherweight title against Jonny Kays on April 27 and this will be his third title fight in the space of 13 weeks.

Aitcheson, who has won both his professional bouts, will join Sykes and fellow Central Boxing Club stablemate James Ancliff, along with Jack Sunderland on the undercard to the huge bill on Saturday June 15.

Tickets are priced £30, or £50 for ringside seats, and are available from trainer Julian McGowan at the Central Club, which is based at Dicky’s Gym in Batley, or from Mark Waters on 07890 071883.

Promoter Steve Wood has made posters advertising the ‘homecoming’ and they will start appearing in shops and businesses around the Dewsbury and Batley areas in the coming days.
