Thornhill produce brave effort despite defeat

THORNHILL Trojans produced a fantastic effort but it wasn’t enough to prevent another defeat in the Pennine League Premier Division.

Thornhill’s shining star was man-of-the-match Anthony Harris with a whole-hearted display.

There was also an encouraging outing from teenager Bret Simmonds in the second row.

Hunslet broke the deadlock after 22 minutes when Luke O’Malley was on the end of a flowing move to score and added the goal, before Kieron Murphy stormed over for a try.

Ryan Campbell added a third try early in the second half, which Rocky Price converted before Thornhill replied when substitute Simon Walker stormed through and fed Andrew Bates, who put winger Liam Green over for an unconverted try.

Thornhill’s hope was short-lived as Hunslet broke and O’Malley was on the end of the move to score his second try. Price converted.

THORNHILL A fought back from 14-4 down at half-time to overcome a youthful Drighlington A in Pennine Division Four.

Three converted tries in an eight minute spell early in the second half proved decisive for the Trojans, who are up to sixth place.
