Thomas bags hat-trick as Celtic seal vital win

Dewsbury Celtic eased their relegation fears in National Conference League Division One thanks to an impressive 36-8 victory at Waterhead.

First half tries from Ryan Knight and Ashley Wildman were not enough for the Oldham side as Danny Thomas led the way for Celtic with a hat-trick of tries.

Pat Foulstone, Danny Lee, Nikki Crabtree and Mike Foulstone also touched down for the visitors, with Crabtree and Matt Sheridan adding two goals apiece as Celtic climbed to ninth place, two points behind Waterhead with three games in hand.

n Shaw Cross Sharks remain second in Division Two after last week’s game was postponed after travellers parked on their pitch.

The Sharks trail leaders Normanton by five points but have three games in hand and they travel to third placed Askam on Saturday.

n Dewsbury Moor have begun pre-season training ahead of their Pennine League campaign, which is due to start on the first weekend in September.

Training, under coach Mark Fortis, is on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at their Heckmondwike Road ground.

Moor, along with other Pennine League clubs from the Dewsbury and Batley areas, have sent their condolences to the family of Pennine League registration officer Graham Holliday, who has passed away.

Mr Holliday dealt with around 500 players’ registrations each season. His funeral is at Wakefield Crematorium on Monday July 29 (11am).
