Tennis starlet Taylor edged out in first final

Tennis starlet Taylor Aitcheson came within a whisker of winning his first orange ball tournament when he was pipped in the final of a competition at Thongsbridge.

The Dewsbury Moor youngster has been granted special permission to enter the higher grade competition by the British Lawn Tennis Association.

Orange ball tournaments usually only allow eight, nine and 10 year olds to enter but Taylor is allowed to compete at just seven years old.

Since moving up to the higher level, Taylor entered two recent tournaments.

He played at Thongsbridge where he was edged out two sets to one in a closely contested final having had a championship point at one stage.

Taylor moved on to a second event at Chapel Allerton in Leeds, where he was beaten in the quarter finals in a very entertaining and close match, losing 7-6 7-6.

Parents Tony and Clare, along with coach Laurence Kelly, are delighted with Taylor’s performances, which have seen him compete against older and more experienced players.

The Liversedge Tennis Club member also trains with the Leading Performance Team each Thursday.
