Tennis starlet Taylor Aitcheson entered his first '˜Orange' tournament last Saturday when he came fifth out of a quality field of 18 top junior players.

Taylor has been recommended to play in the orange grade tournaments 12 months earlier than normal and although he is still only seven-and-a-half years old, he acquitted himself well against older and more experienced players.

Impressive displays, including victory at the Aberdour Open in Scotland, led to the British Lawn Tennis Association granting him a pass to play in higher grade tournaments 12 months before he meets the minimum age limit.

Taylor has also been selected for a county training academy and has special permission from his school, St Josephs, to attend three hour training sessions each Thursday.

A fundraising evening for Taylor has been arranged for Saturday February 27 at Dewsbury Irish Nash in Westtown (7pm) when entertainment will be provided by Taylor’s cousin and well known local vocalist Kelly Aitcheson.

Local businesses will be donating their products and services for an auction, while the family are also looking for sponsorships or further donations for the auction, to help Taylor fulfil his potential.
