Sykes tobox on Frochundercard

GARY Sykes is gearing up to box on the huge bill which will see Carl Froch defend his IBF super middleweight title against Yusaf Mack in Nottingham on November 17.

Sykes will only fight a six-round non-title contest but it should provide him decent exposure on what promises to be one of the biggest nights of the year for British boxing.

The 28-year-old was narrowly edged out in the final of Prizefighter earlier this month but he is determined to keep active in the hope of landing one of several potential tasty fights either at Sykes’s preferred super featherweight division or at lightweight.

An opponent for the Dewsbury Moor star has yet to be named but he has been promised a slot on the Froch bill, which already includes a quality undercard.

It is a hectic time for Sykes’s stable as Leeds fighter Josh Warrington is using the Central Boxing Club in Batley as his base as he prepares to fight Chris Male for the English featherweight title on November 9.
