Dewsbury’s British boxing champion Gary Sykes has been forced to pull out of his double title showdown with Liam Walsh on July 26 following an operation.

Sykes sustained a hand injury during his historic British super featherweight title win over Jon Kays last month.

It was revealed that a broken finger had not healed correctly and Sykes underwent an operation to correct the injury on Wednesday.

Hand specialist Mike Hayton has worked with top boxers Tony Bellew, David Price and Amir Khan and he performed the operation on Sykes’ hand.

The injury has forced Sykes out of his British and Commonwealth showdown with Walsh in Manchester next month.
