Super Gould blasts way to runs record

Gould became only the sixth player in Bradford League history to hit a double century and, incredibly, 172 of his runs came in boundaries as he clattered the Great Horton attack to all parts of the ground, hitting 16 sixes and 19 fours.

Gould eclipsed the previous record of 214 set by Azam Khan, batting for Hartshead Moor against Ben Rhydding in 1990, which was equalled just two weeks ago by Windhill’s Fakhar Hussain - also against Great Horton.

Gould and Andy Gorrod shared a 198-run opening wicket stand before the latter was out for 79 but it set the platform for Gomersal to post a mammoth total of 374-4.

Arun Balasubramanian (74no) led the Great Horton reply but they were bowled out for 137 as James Russell claimed 4-66.

Victory saw Gomersal climb to eighth place in Division Two, eight points behind New Farnley, who suffered a second successive defeat to Bankfoot.

Spen Victoria have taken full advantage of Farnley’s recent lapses to move into second place after they recorded a 44-run victory at Windhill.

Tosh Baker made 65 while there was support from Rob Burton (57no) and Michael Halmshaw (51) as Spen collected maximum batting points by reaching 265-7.

Robert Warriner picked up 4-66 in reply as Windhill were restricted to 221-8 despite Joe Ollerenshaw (41) and Jack Holland (35) impressing.

Hartshead Moor claimed the bragging rights from their derby at Brighouse after recording a 12-run success.

Brighouse are much improved this season and were strengthened by the inclusion of South African born Johanes Van Ee for the first time.

Van Ee collected 5-42 but with Matthew Evans making a vital 47, Hartshead scrambled to 160-8 from their 50 overs.

Sadaqat Zaman (50) and Zahir Hussain (39) looked to be guiding Brighouse to victory but Adnan Raza Ali claimed 4-27 and with support from former captain Will Smith (3-44), the home side were restricted to 148-9.

Victory allowed Hartshead to move 10th in the table.
