Super Celtic seal play-off triumph

Celtic’s young guns produced a sterling display to upset the formbook and storm into the next round of the play-offs.

Pat Foulstone was outstanding with support from Nikki Crabtree, Josh West, Alex Walmsley and Eddie Kilroy.

Super sub Danny Lee also made a massive impact off the bench with an excellent final half-hour.

Celtic opened brightly as scrum-half Nikki Crabtree sent Foulstone clear but Danny Thomas knocked on with the line begging.

Foulstone broke again to send Danny Crabtree over for an unconverted try.

Ricky Williams raced clear for Featherstone but Foulstone got across to make a superb cover tackle.

Nikki Crabtree put Thomas in by the posts and the former converted to make it 10-0.

Lions rallied and Scott Glassell sent John Smith over out wide.

Featherstone came again but a wayward pass was latched onto by Nikki Crabtree, who race clear from half way.

Alex Walmsley and Joe Diskin both went close for Celtic.

Six minutes into the second period, Foulstone gathered a loose ball near his own line and strode clear for the game breaking try in the corner.

West did likewise soon after, clearing up a Lions chip over and after strong runs from Lee and Alex Walmsley, West crossed to extend the lead and Shane Tasker-Howard added the extras on a tough day for kickers in the strong wind.

Lions stayed in the contest when Scott Glassell sent Sam Wilson over in the 53rd minute but Nikki Crabtree showed similar skill to release Diskin for a clever try.

Winger John Kilroy claimed Celtic’s seventh try as they put down a marker as dark horses in the play-offs.

Dewsbury Celtic Under-18s produces a brilliant display against Saddleworth in their final game.

Saddleworth scored an unconverted try but Celtic began to dominate and Josh Brooke put MoM Jordan Lyons over. Adam Egan converted.

Joe Edwards picked up a crossfield kick to put Sam Whitworth in at the corner on his 18th birthday. Egan goaled from near the touchline.

Five minutes later another crossfield kick was again collected by Edwards to score and Egan’s goal made it 18-4.

Josh Brooke sent Elliot Castlehouse in at the corner, and Celtic finished the first half with Egan intercepting a pass to race 80 metres for a converted try.

Castlehouse broke to score between the posts, converted by Egan, before Saddleworth pulled a try back to make it 34-10.

Josh Brooke put Anthony Dunford through for a 55th minute try, which Egan improved and four minutes later Josh Brooke strolled in.

Jack Maguire broke away down and sent Joe Edwards over, with Egan’s seventh goal bringing up the half-centurybefore Saddleworth replied with two unconverted tries.
