Squires’ fine debut

Dewsbury swimming instructor Amy Squires competed in her first triathlon last week, when she finished a very creditable sixth overall.

Amy, a swimming instructor at Dewsbury Sports Centre, competed at the Scissett Triathlon, which comprised of a 400m swim, a 16km bike and a 5k run.

Amy finished the race second in her class and sixth overall.

While training for the event, Amy received coaching on the bike riding aspect of the triathlon from personal trainer James Skidmore.

Amy definitely seems to have caught the triathlon bug as she is already in training for the Salford Quays Triathlon, which takes place in Manchester in in just eight weeks time.

Spenborough Athletics Club will be competing in the third match of the Northern League Division 4 at the Princess Mary Stadium on Sunday, July 7.

The stadium will also host the UK Youth Development League Division 2 East meet for U17 and U20s athletes on Sunday, June 30.
