Spen Flyers U11s win third league title as U13s triumph in cup

SPEN Valley Flyers Under-11s roller hockey team competed in their final league tournament of the season at Halifax.

The team of Keiran Constable (captain), Tom Wright, Keeley Seward-Sharp, Lily Messenger and Elliott Cosgrove (goalkeeper) were aiming to keep their unbeaten record intact.

The first game against Halifax saw the Flyers earn a convincing 9-1 victory.

Against Middlesborough the Flyers won 17-0.

Their final game was against Plymouth and the Flyers had to play with only three outplayers as Seward-Sharp was unable to play.

The Flyers dug deep and managed to win the thrilling game with a 7-6 victory.

The Under-11s have now won the league for the last three years and are hoping to finish their season with a cup victory. They now have the qualifiers to get through first in Manchester on May 26.

The Spen Valley Flyers Under-13s were also playing last weekend in Manchester in the cup qualifiers and to enable them to defend their title for the fourth year they had to win all three matches convincingly to play on the cup finals day also in Manchester.

The Under-13 team, Keiran Constable (captain), Tom Wright, Elliott Cosgrove, Harry Pickering and Charlie Oakes (goalkeeper) were ready to defend their cup.

Their first game was against Manchester B and the Flyers won 11-1. In the second game against Manchester A the Flyers won 8-0. The final match was against Halifax and the Flyers came out 8-1 winners.

They now hope to continue their fine form and also win the league when they play their final home tournament at Whitcliffe Mount on May 26.

The Flyers hold a learn to skate and family skate session at Whitcliffe Mount each Saturday from 4pm to 5pm. For further details of the sessions please contact Jeanette on 07767 063014.
