Sidle stars in Birstall derby win

Birstall A moved up to second place in Central Yorkshire League Division Two thanks to a 122-run derby win over Batley A.

Veteran Richard Sidle led the way for Birstall making 89 at the top of the innings, including nine fours and two sixes.

He was supported by Dominic Cleghorn (36) as Birstall reached 206-9, with Mohammed Munir (4-29) pick of the Batley bowling.

Imran Mayat (39) and Abdurrashid Mamaniat (26) were the only batsmen to reach double figures in reply as they were dismissed for 84 in just 19 overs.

Cleghorn followed him useful knock with the bat by claiming 4-8 from three overs, after Adam Holroyd (3-27) and Alex Drake (3-48) had done the initial damage.

Mirfield Parish Cavaliers A are third, two points behind Birstall, after a thrilling two-run win over Buttershaw St Pauls A.

Buttershaw appeared to be cruising to their victory target of 243 having reached 226-4 but lost their last six wickets for just 15 runs as they were bowled out for 241.

Tom Fretwell (3-52) and Jonathan Hellings (3-67) led the Parish fightback after Neil Parkinson (66) and Matthew Blakeley (63) had led their innings.

Thornhill are seventh after a five-wicket win over Townville A.

Mohammed Wadee claimed 5-15 and Richard Smith 3-21 as Townville were bowled out for 87 before Sufyan Patel hit a crucial 28 to steer Thornhill to victory.

Liversedge A are top of CYL Division Four following an emphatic 253-run victory over Adwalton A.

Russell Clarke (79), Robert Swift (70), Jonny Trevitt (51) and James Ives (51) all got among the runs as Liversedge racked up 312 all out.

Adam Clarke (4-17) and Sam Trevitt (3-14) compunded Adwalton’s misery as the visitors were bowled out for 59 to leave Sedge top.
