Sharks show their class to overcome Myton Warriors

Victory saw the Sharks move above Myton on points difference and they are also level with York Acorn, who they travel to this Saturday.

The Sharks raced into a 22-0 half-time lead and although Myton briefly rallied after the break, Cross had too much for the Warriors.

Full-back Sam Ottewell celebrated his call up to the BARLA Great Britain Under-19s squad who will tour Canada in July with a second minute try.

Ottewell’s Great Britain teammate Brandon French raced over for the second try soon after and two Danny Flowers goals put the Sharks 12-0 up inside the opening 10 minutes.

Hooker Martyn Holland added a third Shaw Cross try and Flowers converted before adding his name to the try scorers as the Sharks dominated the first half.

Nathan Slater gave the visitors brief hope with a 44th minute try which Ashley James converted but Adam Masson ensured there would be no Myton fightback when second row man grabbed his first try of the season.

Robbie Byatt added another unconverted try on the hour to extend the Sharks’ lead to 30-6.

Rory Nelson scored a last minute consolation try for Myton, which Kris Walker improved, but they were well beaten and the Sharks have their sights set on climbing the table further.

Victory for the Sharks over York Acorn on Saturday will put them into the top three and pile pressure on unbeaten leaders Ince Rose Bridge and second placed Kells.

Although Featherstone boasted a big pack, Shaw Cross dominated from the start and ran in three tries in the opening 10 minutes.

Matty Collett, L Ellis and T Stuckey all registered early tries but the Sharks were dealt a blow when Ellis was sent off for foul play.

Despite being down to 12 men, Shaw Cross piled on the pressure to register a further two tries from C Johnson and M Spaven as they raced into a 32-0 half-time lead.

Shaw Cross refused to ease up after the break and ran in a further two converted tries before Featherstone began a mini revival with two converted tries of their own.

Cross led 44-10 but stepped up a gear as Aiden Chandler registered a quickfire hat-trick, Bownass added two more, with Alex Whittaker landing six conversions to complete the rout.

The Sharks A entertain Normanton on Saturday with the Knights also recording an opening day win.
