Seedat ton lifts Batley’s hopes

AYAZ Seedat blasted 151 not out as Batley boosted their promotion charge in Central Yorkshire League Division One with a 114-run triumph at Methley A.

Batley drove home their advantage after deciding to bat as they racked up a massive 352-4.

Mohammed Tahir (53) and Bilal Abbas (56) gave their side a tremendous platform before Seedat took charge.

He was supported by Kashif Talib (39) and Arman Hussain (5no) as Seedat cruised to three figures and remained unbeaten on 151.

Hazaifah Patel made early strikes in the hosts’ reply before Greg Johnson (62) and Daniel Bridges (53) got them back on track.

Nathan Firn made 44 but he also fell to Patel who also dismissed last man Andy Ward to finish with 5-49 as Methley A were 238 all out with six balls left.

Lukman Shaikh claimed 2-23, Roheil Hussain 2-34 and Tariq Hussain 1-44 to leave Batley in fourth place six points behind leaders Liversedge.

Moorlands’ Michael Rounding smashed a century as they won Saturday’s clash of the top two in Division One by seven wickets at Carlton but Liversedge took over at the top after their 76-run success at Oulton.

Carlton started the day top of the table but after deciding to bat never settled against a determined Moorlands side.

Christopher Lloyd (3-51) reduced the hosts to 8-2 before Thomas Taylor helped steady matters with a solid 25.

Chris Kippax again produced a defiant knock with 44 from 52 balls and along with Murphy Walwyn (11) they added a stand of 56 for the sixth wicket.

Nadim Hussain (1-44), Eddie Hoyle (1-37) and Andrew Walker (2-51) chipped away as the home line-up before a last wicket stand of 31 saw Carlton close on 193-9.

Opener Rounding dominanted the Moorlands reply with a superb unbeaten 124 from 108 balls which included 21 fours and two sixes.

Kippax (1-48) was the only successful bowler after Martin Baldwin (24) was run out.

Christopher Stott was out handled the ball for two before Rounding and Hussain (29no) shared an unbeaten stand of 95 to see Moorlands to 196-3 in 39.2 overs.

Moorlands stand third a point behind Carlton with Liversedge top with a better net runs per wicket rate after taking six points at Oulton.

Max Power blasted 62 at the top of the Liversedge order while Matthew Gibson made 19 before Will Atkin added a vital 41 as Liversedge were 142 all out in 43 overs.

Ian Barber took 4-32, Jonathan Gardener 2-34 and Josh Falkingham 3-31.

Oulton had no answer as Simon Kay ripped through the batting taking six wickets for 16 runs in 11 overs with eight maidens, aided by David Winter (2-34) and Steve Lane (1-14), as the home side were reduced to 66 all out in 23 overs.
