Scotland close in on top spot

THE Scotland moved to within a point of Heavy Woollen Sunday League Premier Division leaders navigation after a 5-0 success at Crown Leeds Road.

Joel Clegg led the way with a brace, with Luke Sherman, Matt Durkin and Oliver Fisher also scoring for second-placed Scotland.

Navigation’s game at Birstall St patricks, along with Littletown’s trip to new Scarborough and Towngate’s home clash with St John fisher, were postponed due to waterlogged pitches so Woodman took advantage to go third with a 5-3 victory at Thornhill Lees.

Ryan Gray, Alex Pickles, Danny Peace, Neil Pickles and Greg Snowdon scored for Woodman, with James Wilson, Nathan Kemp and Scott Hargreaves replying for hosts Lees.

Birkenshaw are up to sixth place, six points off top spot, after an Adam Harvey hat-trick saw them win 3-1 at home to Tingley WMC.

Division One leaders New Inn Staincliffe remain two points clear after a 3-2 loss at home to Oakwell Motel.

Man-of-the-match Lee Scott scored twice for Oakwellwith Danny Wilson bagging the other. New Inn had John Stott and Chris Shaw on target.

Second placed Battyeford’s game with AFC Chickenley was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, while Mirfield Town are three points back in third after their 7-3 win over Howden Clough.

Sam Atkinson fired a hat-trick for the hosts, with Niall Raymond, Rowan Evans, Richard Hodgson and Sam Raymond also on the scoresheet. Joe Armitage (two) and Stefan Godbold hit Clough’s goals.

Thirsty Man are fourth after edging out Hartshead (mark Palmer) 2-1 thanks to strikes from Scott Ryan and Anthony Clayton.

Bottom-club Bay Horse East Ardsley earned their first point of the season in a 4-4 draw against Birkenshaw Reserves. Steve Smith (hat-trick) and Jack Rogerson scored for the visitors while Matthew Connor (hat-trick) and Michael Varley saw Bay Horse close to within a point of second-bottom overthorpe Town.
