Scholes take over at top after cashing in to defeat previous leaders Old Bank

The top-of-the-table clash was not as close as some would have expected as Jonny Irvine hit four goals for Scholes, who also had David Blackburn on target.

Robert Evans replied for Old Bank who drop to second after suffering a first defeat of the season.

Old Bank are three points behind Scholes with a game in hand but remain six ahead of third placed Roberttown Rovers, who were unable to take advantage.

Roberttown slipped up after Kieran Corley hit four goals and Patrick Davies bagged a brace as Saville Arms won 6-3.

Clifton Rangers won 6-1 at home to Birstall St Patrick’s, whose consolation goal came from Kieran Cooper.

St Ignatius climbed off the bottom of the table after Tim Crabb, Alex Spurr and Andrew King all netted in a 3-2 win over Ravenswharfe, who replied through a Sam Hewitt double.

Westgate 23 have taken over at the top of Division Two after Connor Lyons, Josh Parker, Nathan Littlewood and Jack Clough all scored in a 4-0 win at Wike Horse.

It is proving a tight division with just four points separating the top four sides.

Previous leaders Wire Works netted through a Craig Smith penalty but two goals from Tom Hirst plus a Michael Hutton solo effort saw Overthorpe Sports Club Reserves secure an impressive 3-1 victory which leaves them very much in contention back in fourth.

Overthorpe are three points behind second placed Wire Works and four off Westgate but have at least a game in hand on all the sides above them.

With Westgate and third placed Clifton Rangers A in County Trophy action this Sunday, Overthorpe can close the gap further when they face struggling Linthwaite Reserves.
