Scholes replaced at top after suffering season’s first defeat

Liversedge players celebrate claiming a wicket in their victory over Wakefield St Michaels, which sees them up to third place in the Central Yorkshire League Championship.

It was a first defeat of the season for James Stansfield’s men as they were replaced at the top of the table by Methley, with Altofts just a point behind in third place.

Christian Jackson, Joseph Duffy and Mohammed Sharafat took two wickets each to restrict Altofts to 177-8 off their 50 overs.

However, a batting collapse saw Scholes skittled for just 107 off 42.4 overs.

Adam Brown was top scorer with a quickfire 30 off 29 balls but six batsmen failed to get in to double figures.

Adam Wood also showed determination in the middle order with a hard fought 26 but it wasn’t enough to help his side earn a bonus point.

Hopton Mills suffered a nine-wicket defeat at Carlton.

Hopton were reduced to 5-3 having been asked to bat before a middle order recovery from Andrew Grey, who hit a timely half-century, helped the visitors to 172-9.

Richard Myers was the only man to take a wicket in reply as Carlton cruised to their target with Stephen Cooper (60no) and Jaycob Curtling (61no) finishing unbeaten.

Birstall earned a two-wicket win over Wakefield Thornes to move five points clear of the relegation zone.

Craig Wood returned impressive figures of 6-54, while Chris Goodair also took two wickets as Thornes slipped from 138-2 to 202 all out.

Rob McFarlane guided his side to victory with an impressive 93 runs, while support came from Nick Kaye (35) and Matthew Dyson (37) .

Mirfield Parish Cavaliers recorded a surprise 42-run win over champions Townville.

Parish were dismissed for 154, despite the efforts of Michael Padgett (56) and opener Terence James (24).

It took terrific bowling performances from Muhammed Shahnawaz (4-28) and Padgett (4-39) to dismiss Townville for 112 and help clinch an impressive victory which saw Parish move up to sixth place in the table.

Methley jumped above Scholes to pole position as they dismissed Ossett for 127, with Sohail Raz claiming 5-39, before completing a comfortable seven-wicket win.

Hunslet Nelson remain bottom, without a win, after suffering a 27-run defeat at Wrenthorpe.
