Scholes miss chance to move above leaders Morley

Scholes missed out on the chance to move top of JCT600 Bradford League Division Two when they suffered a 17-run defeat to Yeadon last Saturday.

Scholes did bounce back with a 135-run win over Bowling Old Lane 24 hours later but they trail leaders Morley by nine points and have played a game more.

James Todd struck an unbeaten century and was supported by Oliver Halliday (40) and Jake Wray (39) as Yeadon posted 224-6 on Saturday.

Despite former Yeadon opener Kasir Maroof making 84, Scholes were dismissed for 207 as Altaf Mohammad claimed 6-49.

Maroof continued his good form with 44 on Sunday before Yasir Ali (66) and overseas player Atif Zaidi (62) shared a 101-run third-wicket partnership as Scholes reached 252.

Ali (4-22) and captain James Stansfield (5-15) combined to dismiss Old Lane for 116.

Gomersal and Spen Victoria’s promotion hopes were severely dented by two defeats over the weekend.

Spen’s bowling attack was plundered for 330-8 by Bankfoot last Saturday as Mohammed Altaf hit a superb 122 and Neil Nicholson (75) before West Indian Cosmond Walters added 73 off 32 balls, despite Robert Warriner taking 4-35.

Spen were dismissed for 153 in reply with Oliver Davison (52) and Peter Jackson (46) their top scorers.

Spen posted 199-8 against lowly Keighley on Sunday, with Bilal Ejaz (74no) and Imran Patel (32) leading the way.

Adal Islam (3-66) and Zarak Khan 3-20 were among the wickets but Keighley edged home with three wickets to spare thanks largely to an unbeaten 36 by Jack Beetham.

Gomersal suffered a 16-run defeat at Bowling Old Lane last Saturday as overseas player Nawaz Sardar (85) helped the home side reach 203 all out, with Joel Pollard taking 5-54.

New Zealander Ben Hyde top scored with 39 in reply but Gomersal fell short as they were dismissed for 187.

Gomersal must have felt confident of recording victory on Sunday after James Russell (5-40) and Josh Fell (3-51) helped dismiss Bankfoot for 131.

Jordan Bloom hit 37 in reply but Gomersal were dismissed for 99 as Cosmond Walters claimed 3-15.

Hartshead Moor lost their game on Sunday, going down by 26 runs to Baildon, who reached 213-7, with Will Smith claiming 6-73.

Fahad Ul-haq made 96 in reply but Hartshead were bowled out for 187.
