Cleckheaton RUFC are unable to kick on after posting early points against Heath

Cleckheaton RUFC made it competitive, but were unable to claim any points from their home game against top five Regional One North East side Blaydon.

Despite plenty of hard graft the home team were unable to get over the line for a try in a 27-6 defeat at Moorend.

They made a promising start and were ahead in the eighth minute as they were awarded a penalty and fly-half Dave Breakwell stroked the ball between the posts to put the first three points on the board.

Cleck doubled the lead five minutes later when further pressure was rewarded by a drop-goal landed by Breakwell.

However, that was the last points they scored as Blaydon began their fightback with an unconverted try then went ahead with a successful penalty goal on 39 minutes.

A second try, this time converted, gave the visitors a 15-6 half-time lead.

Blaydon came out flying for the second period and within a minute had added to their lead with another converted try.

When they scored again six minutes later it was effectively all over.

The floodgates did not open, however, as Cleck dug in defensively and did not have their line breached again in the last half-hour.

They were unable to add to their own points tally, though, and were left to reflect on a tenth loss from 12 league games.

Cleckheaton travel to the north east this Saturday when they face Alnwick in their last game of 2025.
