Wright has been an influential figure in Dewsbury’s recent upturn in form but he has torn a bicep completely off the bone and has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.

Karl Pryce is another major doubt for Sunday’s Kingstone Press Championship clash at Batley, with a back complaint, while Austin Buchanan and Rob Spicer remain on the long term injury list.

Despite the latest set back, Rams coach Glenn Morrison is confident his side can go to Mount Pleasant and give the high-flying Bulldogs a stern test.

Morrison said: “It doesn’t matter if you are playing good or bad, players lift themselves for a big derby but I would much rather be going to Batley in the form we are now then the form before.

“We had not lost a game since Ryan came back so it’s a blow losing him for the season.

“Prycey is also a doubt but that gives Cravo (James Craven) a chance to come back in and he can grasp it with both hands.”

Morrison has also praised the Bulldogs’ incentive for Rams fans attending the game.

He added: “It’s a great idea and I hope our fans turn up in big numbers to cheer us on.

“It’s a tough game against a quality side but it’s important we take some points from the game to cement our place in the top six and avoid getting dragged back into the pressure cooker near the bottom.

“It’s tough, but I am confident that if we stick to the game plan for the 80 minutes, we are a match for anyone and it would be great to give the fans something to cheer.”

n Elliot Corgrove has left Dewsbury to join Keighley Cougars, where he spent a loan spell earlier in the season.
