Thackeray scoops hat-trick of awards

Thackeray has been the Rams’ stand-out player this season and has scored 22 tries, joint fifth highest in the Kingstone Press Championship.

Thackeray won the Supporters Club player of the year, with Tommy Gallagher second and Shane Grady third.

Thackeray also shared the players’ player of the year with Grady and took home the man of steel award in what has been a superb campaign.

Thackeray missed last Sunday’s defeat at Workington but will be back to lead the Rams’ play-off charge, which starts at home to the Cumbrians this Sunday.

Thackeray took to social networking site Twitter to thank the club and Rams supporters.

Thackeray (@thacks7) tweeted: “Over the moon with the awards I received. All down to the boys next to me, on / off the field. Happiest I’ve been both on and off the field. Best group of boys I could be associated with, absolutely outstanding. Thanks again #UTR.”

Dale Morton beat of competition from Karl Pryce and Grady to be named Dewsbury’s best back, while Scott Hale was the Rams’ best forward, closely followed by Ewan Dowes and Gallagher.

Glenn Morrison awarded his coach’s player of the year to impressive centre or second row man Grady.

Clubman of the year went to long serving director Andrew Farrow, while there was a special award made to Dr Jim Lee, who is retiring as the club’s doctor after 32 seasons.

Dewsbury pulled out all the stops to make the presentation night a huge success, with video highlights from the season and entertainment provided by Halifax comedian Pete Emmett.

The event was sold out, with Rams fans packing the Royal Suite at Tetley’s Stadium to celebrate the season.
