Rams target victory treble in Oldham trip

The Rams have yet to hit top gear but did enough to edge past Swinton Lions on the opening day of the season before a second half blitz saw them defeat Workington 38-16 last Sunday.

For the second away game running, Dewsbury fans will visit a new venue as Oldham are now based at Stalybridge Celtic’s Bower Fold.

Older supporters will remember visiting Oldham’s original home of Watersheddings, while the club have also used Boundary Park, Ashton United FC’s Hurst Cross and, more lately, Whitebank Stadium on the outskirts of the town.

Oldham have found life tough having won promotion last season and suffered a 22-0 opening day defeat at home to London Broncos before going down 48-18 at champions Leigh Centurions last week.

However, Oldham have strengthened their ranks with the signing of highly rated 20-year-old back Jake Bibby on a one month loan from Salford and he could make his debut against the Rams.

Glenn Morrison is happy with his side’s start, saying: “I want us to enjoy defending as much as we do attacking but in the first half (last week) we were doing too much of it.

“We all but managed to shut Workington out in the second half.

“We worked for each other inside and covered each other’s backsides. You need that in order to have a winning team and we have instilled it, we are a close unit. The way the competition is, you can’t afford to drop two points.”

Morrison reported no new injuries following the Workington game and the Rams will travel to Stalybridge confident of picking up a third straight victory.
