Brown hobbled off with a knee injury just nine minutes into last Friday’s Challenge Cup tie against Wigan Warriors.

The Rams were waiting on results from scans this week when the extent of the injury will become clearer but he faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Brown has damaged lateral ligaments, which will rule him out for around two months, and if the cruciate ligaments are also torn, he could be out for the season.

Rams coach Glenn Morrison was bitterly disappointed for the former Leeds Rhinos Academy player, saying: “He is a quality player and has been in outstanding form.

“We have boys ready to step up but it is very tough to replace players of his quality.”

Ryan Wright suffered a neck injury against Wigan, while Kieran Hyde was taken off with a groin strain but both should have recovered to take their place in the Dewsbury squad for Sunday’s Kingstone Press Championship clash at Swinton Lions (ko 3pm).

However, Lucas Walshaw’s loan deal has ended and the second row has returned to Wakefield and is included in the Wildcats 19-man squad to face Leeds tonight.

Morrison added: “We have a good squad but this will certainly test our depth.

“Walshaw is a local lad who played a lot for us last year. He always gives 100 per cent when he pulls on the shirt and he wanted to play every week.”

Morrison knows his side face a test on Sunday, adding: “Swinton will be a really tough game as they fight for 80 minutes and even when they have lost, they have picked up a bonus point but if we play with the same intensity and mentality as we did against Wigan I think we will be ok.”
