Rams return for gruelling pre-season programme

Morrison believes the hard graft his squad put in over the coming weeks will give them the best possible chance of success next season.

Morrison said: “I’m sure there will be a few sore bodies but we are looking for a good pre-season so that we are ready to go from round one of the competition.

“It is about getting as much (work) into the legs as possible at this time.

“There has already been plenty of volume in the work we have been doing and I’m sure the boys will be feeling it when they wake up — that is the joy of pre-season.”

Morrison has captured the stellar signing of former Super League hooker Wayne Godwin, along with Tom Hemingway from Batley and Anthony Thackeray from Halifax.

The Australian believes Dewsbury can improve on their seventh place finish last year, adding: “I feel we have a good squad together, everyone has come back injury free and we are in a good position compared to this time last year.

“It is going to be a very tough competition. Every club has improved their squad and there are going to be some top quality players next year.”

Morrison admits there could still be one place available in his squad and is keeping a keen eye on the World Cup in the hope of attracting a quality overseas man.

Morrison said: “I have spoken to a couple of mates who are over here playing and am keeping a close eye on the games.

“We have put together a fairly good squad but if a player became available and we can afford him, we will look to bring him in.

“We made the second round of the play-offs last year and want to improve on that.”
