Rams put slow start behind them to win at Workington

The Round 2 game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch three weeks ago and the long midweek trip to Cumbria appeared to affect the Rams as they fell 8-0 behind.

Sam Forrester jinked his way over after seven minutes with Carl Forber landing the conversion and tagging on a penalty soon after.

The Rams gradually came into the game and pulled a try back when a grubber kick to the in-goal area was not dealt with and Luke Adamson pounced to score. Kieran Hyde converted.

Forber tagged on a second penalty for a high tackle but Dewsbury weathered the Workington storm and went ahead before half-time.

A penalty put the Rams on attack and Anthony Thackeray’s short ball sent Luke Adamson over for his second try, which Hyde improved.

Dewsbury extended their lead early in the second half when a long pass sent winger Dalton Grant free and he put Matty Wildie over for a try, which Hyde again goaled.

Marc Shackley pulled a try back for Town and Forber landed his fourth goal to reduce the deficit to 18-16.

But it was the Rams who finished strongly and when Forrester and Theerapol Ritson collided going for the same ball, it gifted Hyde with a simple try, which he improved.

Forber landed a third penalty on the hour, while Tom Hemingway missed with a first drop goal attempt but was on target with a second to give the Rams a crucial seven-point lead.

Dewsbury continued to press and Hemingway launched an attempted 40-20.

Town winger Jack Murphy prevented the ball going into touch but then threw it inside and Toby Adamson gleefully pounced for his first try in Rams colours.

Hemingway converted to ensure it was a happy journey home for the Rams, who moved up to fifth place in the table.
