Rams face tough test with In-form Rovers

Dewsbury suffered a 46-16 defeat to Halifax a fortnight ago, which has all but ended their hopes of finishing in the top four.

Featherstone racked up a fourth straight win on Wednesday night, springing a surprise to defeat new Championship leaders Bradford Bulls 37-18.

Leigh Centurions trail the Bulls by two points in the race for top spot but have two games in hand — one of which is against the Rams on Wednesday July 22.

Dewsbury will hope Wednesday’s match, on what was the hottest day of the year, will have sapped Featherstone’s energy and it is an important game as Glenn Morrison’s side bid to finish sixth.

Featherstone’s win at Odsal saw them move into fourth spot, two points above Halifax, with both teams having four matches remaining before the Championship splits.

Dewsbury lie seventh, three points behind London with a game in hand and the Broncos visit Tetley’s Stadium next week for a crunch clash in the battle to finish sixth.

The Bulls went top of the table with a 34-16 home win over Batley Bulldogs last weekend and were on a 17-game winning streak but they were outplayed by Featherstone who defied the searing heat to give their best performances of the season, with Australian winger Jy Hiscox scoring a first half hat-trick of tries.

Karl Pryce needs one try to reach a career century, 24 of which have come playing for the Rams. He scored 47 tries in two spells at Bradford, 16 for Wigan in 2009-2010 and a further 12 for Harlequins in 2011.

Aaron Brown will play his 50th game for the club if he features at Featherstone.

Shane Grady and Brett Seymour could both be in line to return for the Rams but coach Glenn Morrison realises it will be a tough game.

Morrison said: “We have played a lot of rugby recently, so hopefully the break will have allowed us to freshen up a bit.

“It will be a tough game and they will be on cloud nine after a great result the other night, which could make them even tougher to beat.

“This time of year it tends to show who are the full time sides or those who are allowed to have extra training as they have more recovery time.

“We will still be trying to get sixth place and our next two games will be crucial if that is to happen.”
