Rams bounce back to defeat Eagles

Dewsbury Rams bounced back from Friday's Heavy Woollen derby defeat in style as they overcame full-time Sheffield Eagles 34-16.

The Rams produced some impressive attacking play to run in six tries as they ended a three match losing run in the Kingstone Press Championship.

Dewsbury took the lead after just three minutes when a cracking move involving Andy Kain and Josh Guzdek resulted in Paul Sykes dummying his way through before sending winger Dale Morton diving in at the corner.

Joel Farrell then made a terrific break before feeding Morton, who cut inside, offloaded to Guzdek and he in turn sent Sykes through a gap.

Although Sykes was tackled short by the scrambling Sheffield defence, Dewsbury moved left on the next play and Dalton Grant scored in the corner. Sykes landed a terrific touchline goal.

Sheffield hit back when George Tyson sent Dave Hewitt racing over, with Michael Knowles converting.

Dewsbury continued to put Sheffield under pressure and were rewarded in the final minute of the first half when a penalty took them close to the Eagles line and the ball was worked out to Morton, who cut inside and beat two defenders to score.

Sykes tagged on the goal and Dewsbury led 16-6 at half-time.

Sheffield hit back early in the second half when they moved left following a scrum and Rob Worrincy forced his way over in the corner.

Dewsbury then took control and ran in two cracking tries in as many minutes.

Nathan Conroy dummied through the Eagles defence before feeding Grady on his outside and he showed great strength to hold off a defender and plant the ball down. Sykes landed another towering goal.

The Rams launched another attack and Farrell was sent through a gap to gleefully charge over for a well deserved try, which Sykes again improved.

Cory Aston produced a neat runaround and offloaded to send Knowles crashing over for a converted try but Sykes eased any Rams nerves with a penalty goal at the other end.

Dewsbury rounded off an impressive win in the final minute when Sykes produced a lovely short pass to send Luke Adamson racing through a gap and over for the Rams sixth try as the hooter sounded.
