Rams boss Morrison slams fixture chaos

The Rams boss was speaking after Wednesday’s 40-24 defeat at newly crowned league leaders shield winners Leigh Centurions.

Morrison said it was unfair to ask part time players to play midweek games having spent the day at work and the schedule was affecting his side’s chances of a top six finish in the Kingstone Press Championship.

Morrison said: “This was the third time this year that we have had to play three games in a week.

“Two of them, we’ve had to travel up to Cumbria and it’s taking its toll, we’ve got boys who are busted up and we don’t know if we’ll be able to field half of them for Sunday.

“It’s not fair on part time players having to do that after they’ve worked all day.

“They travelled up to Cumbria at the weekend and now they’ll have to back it up in a couple of days time.

“I’m proud of the efforts (against Leigh) but disappointed that we’ve had to do that three times this year.”

Dewsbury entertain Batley Bulldogs on Sunday in their final game before the Championship splits and Morrison knows a third victory over their neighbours will see them finish the first part of the campaign in sixth.

Morrison added: “For us to have this game midweek and Batley being fresh could take its toll in the last 20 minutes and it was the same when we played them at Blackpool, when it was also our third game in a week.”

Dewsbury will be without Toby Adamson for Sunday’s derby after the influential second rower suffered a broken cheekbone following a clash of heads with teammate Sam Dunn on Wednesday.
