Rams bid to tame Lions ahead of crucial period

Glenn Morrison’s men appear to have turned the corner with back-to-back victories over Keighley Cougars and last Thursday’s superb performance which saw them dump holders Halifax out of the Northern Rail Cup.

Dewsbury have three Championship games before attention will return to the Northern Rail quarter-finals on June 16 and Morrison knows this is a crucial period which will go a long way to determining where they will finish in the final standings.

Morrison said: “We have had our fair share of bad luck with injuries and having to chop and change the side but hopefully we have turned the corner.

“I was really pleased with the way we played last week but we must remember it’s only a couple of wins and we now need to build on that.

“You need to be winning games against the sides around you to distance yourselves from them and it will be really important to take the buzz and the winning feeling into the next three games.”

Chris Bridge played for Swinton against the Rams at Leigh Sports Village earlier in the season, while Adrian Morley and Lee Briers have both turned out for the Lions in recent weeks.

However, with Warrington Wolves meeting St Helens as part of the Magic Weekend on Saturday evening, Morrison should have a better idea of which dual registered players Swinton will have available.

David Mills and Gene Ormsby will not play after being suspended for one match following a brawl at Batley on May 12.

Dewsbury are currently sixth but just two points ahead of Swinton in ninth as they aim for a third straight win before heading to Batley on June 2 for the Heavy Woollen derby.
