Rams bid to bounce back against Leigh

The Rams conceded 36 unanswered points, 30 of which came in 20 second half minutes, as they let a 22-0 lead slip and went down 36-22.

Matters were compounded when Karl Pryce was dismissed for a high tackle after 62 minutes.

Coach Glenn Morrison felt the decision was harsh as Pryce was trying to avoid a tackle but admitted the game was already over by then.

Dewsbury are yet to hear from the RFL disciplinary panel, so Pryce is clear to play in Sunday’s Kingstone Press Championship clash against Leigh.

Hooker Ryan Wright has had X-rays on an ankle injury picked up at Barrow, while several other players are carrying knocks.

Morrison said: “We have a good squad and some of the other boys could get a game and they are raring to go.”

While Morrison was disappointed with the defeat at Barrow, he believes the side will learn from the experience and is looking for a reaction against the Centurions on Sunday.

He added: “We knew it would be tough going up there. We spoke before how they would treat it as a Grand Final after their coach gave them a roasting in the press.

“We worked things so the players would be as comfortable as possible and to score 22 points shows our preparations were right.

“We knew it would be an up and down year. This is a new bunch of players and a young bunch and although we were in a position where we should have won, we will use it as a learning curve.

“You have got to be mentally up for the big games. If you aren’t you are in for a rude awakening but this is a good chance for us to bounce back against one of the strongest sides in the competition and one of the favourites.”

Leigh come into the game on the back of a 40-18 defeat to champions Sheffield Eagles last Friday and are a point and one place behind the Rams, so it promises to be a cracking contest.

Dewsbury players not involved on Sunday will be holding a bucket collection at half-time in aid of former Ram Ryan Glynn, who was injured playing for Shaw Cross last week.
